🎉 Woohoo! Team Sophie and Team Riley have passed the oh so complex Chair Test. This test is 🔑 key to a dog having learned that “Fetch” = put mouth on db no matter where the dog’s db is located.
So, today we will work on increasing speed of the retrieve against some new, high distractions, the RoF, and working on the RoHJ. Then, we’ll discuss when to have the SRC Graduation Party (after Christmas) and all that good stuff.
It is now very nearly done, you have taught your dogs the Practical, Working Retrieve. All that remains to be done with me is to finish well.
So proud of you Jeanne and Janet! What a fascinating journey this has been with both of you👏👏

Jeanne & Sophie: Week 13, Jump-Jump Sequence and Chair Test 12/7/19
Sophie is quick to return over the jump, so it was hard sometimes for me to get the SSIF. When fetching, she consistently picks up the dumb bell on the way back.
Janet & Riley: Week 13, Jump-Jump Sequence and Chair Test 12/7/19
Riley was slow, but completed everything. During the sequencing, she paused and listened to people coming inside the house. I corrected her and did a few extra ones.
During the chair test I did one correction when Riley went to the dumb bell under the chair, but didn't return with it. We repeated that placement.

Lesson 13 from Sunday is uploaded. Outline of RoHJ*, RoF*, and Rally Course* *Requirements for Graduation
GREAT class on Sunday. Despite the dreary rain and miserable weather outside, inside we had a great class as we are nearly done with this Summer Retrieve Course. Once the dog is retrieving from the ground, on a Placed Retrieve @ 6', it is time for the following:
RoHJ sequence
Part 1 = "Jump - Jump"
Part 2 = "Jump, Fetch, Jump" of a Placed Retrieve
Part 3 = "Jump, Fetch, Jump" of a Tossed Retrieve*
*Part 3 is part of your Retrieve Course Graduation requirements.
RoF extended distance (15' LL)
Heel dog onto a Front Place Board
Sit/Stay
Stand up TALL and STRAIGHT - do NOT move when sending dog at all
LL is in the "O" ring position held with the left thumb/forefinger and LL between you and dog
Tossed retrieve @ 7', then 8', then 10', the 12', etc.
Tossed retrieve @ 15' on LL*
Tossed retrieve @ 15' on LL against HIGH distractions is part of your Retrieve Course Graduation Requirements
Rally Course done with dog holding its db in mouth on "Hold" command during course* is part of your Retrieve Course Graduation Requirements.
My intention is that we can barrel through the above requirements in 1-2 weeks, and be done by Dec 15. If possible, I'd love to do our Graduation Celebration Party after Christmas.

Congratulations Jeanne and Janet
Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. I know ours was fabulous. So grateful Jared was here, it was a memorable visit, long overdue, and absolutely delightful getting caught up. Sometimes, the best gifts are just time well spend with people you love that love you also.
Anyway, you both have made tremendous progress in training your dogs to retrieve on command. Here are the remaining lessons that need to be accomplished to graduate.
Lesson 14) Retrieve on the Flat (tossed retrieve not a placed retrieve), extend distance
Lesson 15) Chair Test (different from Stair Test)
Lesson 16) Retrieve over High Jump (RoHJ)
Graduation Party celebrating the RoF at extended distances, Rally run-thru, the HOLD game, the RoHJ, potluck and certificates of graduation. My goal is finish the last 3 lessons just before Christmas week, the Lord willing, get together on the 1st if possible for a Graduation Party.
Beginning tomorrow I will teach you the mechanics for the RoHJ as you'll work on that so by the time we get to Lesson 16 all the pieces are already in place. You and your dog graduate when your dog can do a RoF at extended distances of 30' & the RoHJ.
See you both tomorrow for class. So proud of Team Sophie and Team Riley - you all ROCK!

Janet & Riley: Week 13? Exam, Retrieve on Flat 11/29/19
Riley has improved from earlier in the week where she would launch but then lay down at the dumb bell. She anticipates now and launches sometimes before I say fetch, but I'm happy that she does retrieve it and comes back holding it without correction. She also turns to the left when she comes back.
